Foreign Capital Flows and Economic Growth: A Literature Survey

A large number of empirical studies have been devoted to the effects of the foreign capital flows on economic growth in developing countries. This survey intends to review some selected empirical studies on the growth effects of capital flows with a special attention given to foreign direct investment. One of the important results obtained from this literature survey is that the findings of many researches have largely been controversial due to the different empirical approaches and the time periods used in them. Hovewer, a general tendency found in the literature that foreign direct investments compared to other types of capital flows, are positively and more strongly correlated with economic growth.
