A case study within the context of "Green olympics" design: The analysis and evaluation of Sydney 2000 project

Some environmental guidelines are specified by the Sydney Olympics Committee (SOCOG) for "a green Olympic" in 2000 Summer Olympics. These guidelines consist of criteria for sustainable development, and criteria for responsible event management. Sydney won the competition of Olympics by the Olympics bid plan prepared within the context of these environmental guidelines. Greenpeace worked together with the Sydney Olympics Committee (SOCOG) throughout the process in order to provide the commitment to environmental guidelines. In this paper, Sydney Olympics Project is analyzed according to the environmental guidelines prepared by the Sydney Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) like "Planning and Construction of Olympic Facilities", "Energy Conservation", "Water Conservation", "Waste Avoidance and Minimization", "Improving Air, Water and Soil Quality" "Protecting Significant Natural and Cultural Environments" and the evaluation results of Greenpeace are given.
