19. yüzyıldan itibaren uluslar arası siyaset alanında kullanılan "Şark Meselesi" bu yüzyılın stratejik ve dinî sebeplerle ortaya çıkardığı bir kavramdır. “The Eastern problem” used from the beginning of the 19th century is a concept derived from the strategic and religious concerns of that century. The same problem still exists in a different appearance based on the same concerns. The region dominated by the Ottoman Empire is called as “the Middle-East ” today in the literature of international relations and history. The Eastern Problem is a concept which describes the strategies employed to share the land of the Ottoman Empire by the western powers and the competition among them as regards to this matter. Some of the important issues merged with Middle-East can be listed as follows : Palestine- Israel , artificial states , incapable administrators , political instability and oil , major religions , ethnic structure , GAP ( South Eastern Anatolian Project ) , terror and water resources.
