Öğrencilerin, matematik dersindeki başarısızlıklarını sadece bir faktörle açıklamak zordur. Öğrencilerin, matematik başarısını etkileyen bir çok faktör olabilir. Üstelik, bu faktörler birbirleriyle sürekli etkileşim halindedirler. Bu çalışmada, öğrencilerin matematik başarısını etkileyen faktörler, literatüre dayalı olarak tespit edilmiş ve 10 madde altında toplanmıştır. Daha sonra bu 10 madde, 2001- 2002 öğretim yılında Sivas il merkezinde bulunan 8 ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan 38 matematik öğretmenine yöneltilmiştir.Araştırma sonuçları, matematik öğretmenlerinin öğrencilerin matematik başarısının bir çok faktörden etkilendiğinin farkında olduklarını göstermiştir.
