Sosyal bilgiler, toplumsal olayları inceleyen bir ders olarak A.B.D\'da 1916 yılında adı konulmuştur. Bu ülkede, dünyanın siyasal ve sosyal gelişmelerine ve eğitim akımlarına göre sosyal bilgiler de, farklı gelişmeler göstermiştir. Türkiye\'de ise, sosyal bilgilerin konuları farklı derslerin içeriğinde yer almış olsa da, 1968 yılında ayrı bir ders olarak ilk defa programa konulmuştur. Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler dersinin A.B.D\'da ve Türkiye\'deki gelişim aşamalarını incelemektir. Araştırmada, literatür taraması kullanılmıştır.

Social studies has been named in U.S.A in 1916 as a lecture exploring the social incidents. Social studies have shown different developments in this country due to training movements and social and political developments of the world. Although the topics of the social studies were available in the contents of different lectures in Turkey it has been included in the curriculum as a separate lecture in 1968 for the first time. The purose of this research is to explore the development stages of social studies in U.S.A and Turkey. Literature review is used in the research.
