The Investigation of viscosity values of Aluminum Powder Reinforced Polypropylene.

In this study, aluminum (Al) powder reinforced polypropylene based composites were produced and viscosity changes were investigated for the determination of flow properties of composites. Experiments have been carried out using five different pressures (298.2 kPa, 524 kPa, 689.5 kPa, 987.4 kPa, 1379 kPa) and five different temperatures (210 oC, 220 oC, 230 oC, 240 oC, 250 oC), three different Al powder additive rates (5%, 10%, 15%), and three different Al powder particle sizes (44-100 µm, 100-210 µm, 210-300 µm). Also, antioxidant was added by 0.2% to prevent oxidation during the production of Al powder reinforced composite granules. The experimental results indicate that viscosity values have reduced when temperature, pressure and shear rate have increased. On the contrary, viscosity values have increased by the increasing Al powder particle sizes and additive rates. According to the results of this study, the lowest viscosity values were determined in experiments where the pressure is 1379 kPa and the temperature is 250 oC and additive rate is 5%, and particle sizes are 210-300 µm and 44-100 µm
