Serological profile of hepatitis B, hepatitis C and human immunodeficiency viruses among pregnant women

Purpose: The incidence of infections vith hepattitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency (HIV) viruses that can be transmitled from mother to fetus has been increasing in the general population. Methods: We evaluated up the serological test results of 644 pregnant vvomen (rnean age±SD: 27.92±5.2years) during a period of 18 months. Results: We found out that the seropositivity for HBsAg and anti-HBs was 3.2% and 37.8% respectively. No pregnant woman was anti-HCV(+) and anti-HIV(+) in our study group. Concluslon: The "at risk" babies can only be identified through screening of al! mothers during pregnancy ör even before pregnancy for candidates.
