Hastane Kaynaklı Solunum Yolu Enfeksiyonu Etkeni Olarak Elizabethkingia meningoseptica
Elizabethkingia meningoseptica as a Nosocomial Respiratory Tract Pathogen
Although Elizabethkingia is a bacterial genus that was believed to rarely cause human infection, there is an increased incidence of Elizabethkingia infections among patients in intensive care units in the recent years. These infections are associated with a high mortality rate because of multi-drug resistance and the lack of knowledge on effective therapeutic regimens. An 85-year-old male patient who had been hospitalised for decompensated heart failure, developed acute respiratory failure and was entubated, subsequently he was admitted to the intensive care unit for further followup. Diagnosis and treatment management of this case with E. meningoseptica -isolated from endotracheal aspirate cultures performed for fever, hypoxia and purulent secretions- is being discussed
