Geographical indications (GIs) are place designations that are used to identify items that originate in those locations and to safeguard the reputation and caliber of a distinctive product with local origins. The phrase is most frequently used in reference to alcoholic beverages, food, and agriculture. Turkey is one of the countries in the world with a very high GI potential. According to the data of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT), there are about 2500 products that can receive CI registration. European Union Registration Status of geographically indication products in Turkish agricultural products are 8 products and has made an application to the EU Commission totally for 31 products. Dairy products [(55 pieces: 34 cheese, 2 butter, 4 cream, 9 yoghurt, 2 ice cream, 2 ayran, and 2 others (Bolu Keçi, Gerede Keçi)] constitute 5.3% of the share in food products. While it constitutes 2.7% of the total registered products, it has a rate of 61.8% among dairy products. The number of dairy products for which GI applications have been made is 19. This value constitutes 4.58% of the total of 720 products at the application stage. A total of 34 cheeses, of which 14 (3 from abroad) originate here and 20 have a geographical indication, have been registered.
