Women’s Dengbêj on Yerevan Radio
Dengbêj literature has attracted the attention of many academics and researchers in recent years
and has been the subject of many studies. Women have also been one of the main subjects of
denbêj, but they have not been studied much as the producer and performer of this literature.
This study aims to consider women as producers and performers of dengbêj. Most of the classic
dengbêj products are produced by women. Women have always been active in the performance
of dengbêj but they have always been one step behind men. After the spread of radio broadcasts,
women had the opportunity to raise their voices and brought this art to the stage from behind
the curtain. Dengbej and artists of Yerevan Radio Susika Simo, Fatma Îsa, Aslîka Qadir, Belga
Qado and Zadîna Şekir are important names in this field. In our study, first of all, the dengbêj
tradition was briefly introduced. In the second part, an evaluation was made on women and
dengbêj. In the last part, the four dengbêjs mentioned above were introduced from Yerevan
Radio.
