The Problem of Value in Social Sciences

The problem of value freedom in social sciences has been raised by Kant and studied as an issue of methodology by Max Weber. Positivists have claimed that value freedom in social sciences could be achieved through imitating the methodology of physical sciences. Popper defended the possibility of the value freedom in social sciences by distinguishing facts from values. Habermas criticized Popper's distinction between fact and value as involving positivism. I argue that it is not possible to make any distinction between fact and value in without presupposing positivist methodology of science that is not proper for social sciences.
