The answer would seem to be that excessive continued expansion of these alloys does not occur unless they are contaminated. If, in practice, cleanliness in maintained at the time of amalgamation and during the placing of the restoration, no trouble should be encountered. Furthermore, alloys containing zinc are giving and have given excellent results and have some characteristics which make them better suited to dental practice than are non - zinc alloys. Changing from a zinc o a non- zinc alloy to avoid the necessity of reasonable cleanliness of the palm and amalgamating equipment may develop a false sense of security, since undesired effects, other than delayed expansion, may accompany the use of contaminated       non-zinc alloys.Obviously, the foregoing precautions are compulsory also for non-zinc alloys if one maintains acceptable manipulative procedure.
