Effects of one versus two or three applications of a Self-etching Adhesive on Shear Bond Strength

This study investigated the effectiveness ofnew development self-etching adhesive on the shearbond strength of one layer, two layer and threelayer applications to dentine. 45 extracted humanmolar teeth were subjected by wet grinding with360-grit silicon carbide paper and then exposeddentine surfaces were prepared with three differentapplication methods by Adper Prompt L-Pop APP . One layer application Control : APP wereapplied for 15 seconds on the specimens and gentlyair dried for 3 seconds and polymerized with halogen light for 10 seconds n=15 . Two layer application: The specimens were prepared as a duplicate ofthe one layer application n=15 . Three layer application: The specimens were prepared as triple ofthe one layer application n=15 . Composite Z250 cylinders 4 mm diameter, 2 mm high were polymerized with 40 seconds on the self-etching treatedall dentin surfaces. The specimens were stored at37°C for 24 h prior to testing. Cemented specimenswere subjected to shear loading 0.5 mm/min untilfracture using a universal testing machine Llyod .Statistical analysis was done with one-way analysisof variance ANOVA and Duncan test. Two layerapplication had significantly higher bond strengths 10.6 ± 2.1 MPa on dentine P
