The Prevalence of Impacted Second Mandibular Permanent Molar Teeth: Retrospective Study

The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the prevalence of the impacted second mandibular permanent molars. Although the impaction of the mandibular second molar is not very common in the literature, in clinic practice it’s a quite common situation, and patients experience a difficult treatment process. Thus, while planning treatment impacted teeth should be carefully evaluated as well as the esthetics expectations of the patients. In this study, panoramic radiographs of patients who applied to Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics were evaluated. 7352 panoramic radiographs taken before treatment were examined according to selection criteria. Permanent mandibular second molar teeth were classified according to the amount, side, type of impaction and their prevalence was calculated.
