Bu Çalışma kapsamında İspanyol Sosyolog Manuel Castells’in, “İnternet Galaksisi: İnternet, İş Dünyası ve Toplum Üzerine Düşünceler (2001)” adlı eseri incelenmiştir. Eser, internet teknolojisinin inşa sürecinden başlayarak kitabın yayınlandığı 2000’li yılların başına kadar olan dönemde bu teknolojinin geldiği noktayı içermektedir. Eserde Castells, dönemin internet teknolojisindeki gelişmelerini sosyal, toplumsal ve ekonomik bağlamlarda irdeleyerek eleştirilerde bulunmuştur. Bununla birlikte eserde, bir iletişim aracı olarak 15. Yüzyılda Batı’da yayılmaya başlayan matbaa teknolojisi ile günümüzdeki internet teknolojisi arasında bir benzerlik ilişkisi kurulmuştur. Bu bağlamda eser, Marshall McLuhan’ın “Gutenberg Galaksisi-Tipografik İnsanın Oluşumu (1962)” adlı eserinden hareketle bir iletişim aracı olarak dönemin internet teknolojisinden hareketle toplum yapısındaki dönüşümü incelemesi açısından literatüre katkı sağlamaktadır. Castells, eserinde internet tabanlı teknolojileri, geliştirilmesi gereken yaşamın bir uzantısı olarak olumlu bir perspektiften değerlendirirken, diğer taraftan mahremiyet, özgürlük, dijital fark, güvenlik sorunlarını da beraberinde getireceğini gelecek öngörüleriyle birlikte aktarmıştır.

This study is the work of Spanish Sociologist Manuel Castells, “The Internet Galaxy: Reflections on the Internet, Business, and Society (2001)”. The work includes the point that this technology has reached in the period starting from the construction process of internet technology until the beginning of the 2000s when the book was published. In the work, Castells made criticisms by examining the developments in internet technology of the period in social, social and economic contexts. However, in the work, a similarity relationship has been established between the printing technology, which started to spread in the West in the 15th century as a communication tool, and today's internet technology. In this context, the work contributes to the literature in terms of examining the transformation in the social structure based on the internet technology of the period as a communication tool, based on Marshall McLuhan's "Gutenberg Galaxy-The Making of Typographic Man (1962)". In his work, Castells evaluated internet-based technologies from a positive perspective as an extension of life that needs to be developed, on the other hand, he conveyed to the reader that it would bring privacy, freedom, digital difference and security problems, along with future predictions.
