EDWARD BOND, THE CHILDREN, SEVGİ VE ŞİDDET

Yazarlık görevini topluma ayna tutmak olarak belirleyen günümüz İngiliz oyun yazarlarından Edward Bond (1934- ) toplumda gözlemlediği aksaklıkları çekinmeden ele almıştır. Daha barışçıl ve sağlıklı toplumda yaşamanın insan olarak herkesin hakkı olduğu gerçeğini oyunlarında sıklıkla işlemiştir. II. Dünya Savaşı’nı ve sonrasındaki yıkımı bizzat yaşaması da Edward Bond’un yazarlık yaşamındaki dönüm noktalarındandır. Oyunlarında her kesimden insanları konu edinen Bond, özellikle son dönem oyunlarından The Children (Çocuklar) oyununda öteki oyunlarından biraz farklı bir yol izleyerek çocukları ve onların içinde bulundukları ortamı ele alır. Yaşanmasını istemediği durumları oyunlarında vermek suretiyle topluma ayna tutma görevini de bir anlamda yerine getirmiştir denebilir.

EDWARD BOND, THE CHILDREN, LOVE AND VIOLENCE

Edward Bond (1934- ), who is one of the contemporary British Playwrights, sees his playwrighting career as holding a mirror to the society and problems in the society. Again and again hehas penned the truth that everybody has the right to live in a more peaceful and happy society. That he himself has witnessed the World War II and the destruction aftermath is one of the turning points of his writing career. Bond, who handles people from every part of the society, writes about the children and their atmosphere in his play The Children (Bond, 2000a). By doing this, he has fulfilled his task of holding a mirror to the society.
