Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’ndaki Ermeni nüfusu her daim tartışma konusuolmuştur. Günümüzde de devam eden bu tartışmalar, özellikle tehcir öncesi vesonrası Ermeni nüfusunun ne olduğu noktasında yoğunlaşmaktadır. Bu gözönünde bulundurulduğunda, ilk aşamada tehcir öncesindeki Osmanlı Ermenilerinüfusu ve bu döneme ait Osmanlı’daki nüfus çalışmalarının mahiyetininbelirlenmesi gerekmektedir. Bu gereklilik nedeniyle çalışmamızda, Osmanlı nüfusaraştırmalarının geçmişi ve tehcir öncesinde İmparatorlukta var olan Ermeninüfusunun ne olduğu incelenmiştir
