This paper describes a method for hierarchically developing Bills-of-Materials (BOMs) for multi-product and multi-process production systems. In the proposed approach, BOM is separated into levels for the corresponding processes. This information is stored in a relational database and these information partitions of BOMs are put together in a systematic manner. In other words, BOM of a product is generated in an automated way. The main objective is to minimize the data entry while representing BOMs. This method gives usage opportunity by storing the information in a data base environment. This method can be used for defining materials, generating BOMs, determining required input/output quantities for each process which also benefits to backtracking of the production processes.
