Hyperspectral Imaging for Camouflage Detection
For many image processing applications, it is possible to obtain a much higher performance with hyperspectral imaging, with respect to optical or infrared cameras. Camouflage detection is an image processing problem that keeps its importance and actuality, and that can benefit from the performance of hyperspectral imaging. In this paper, the performance of hyperspectral imaging for the detection of objects or people hidden among plants, is examined. Natural and artificial leafs, camouflage material and green colored objects, are used to simulate the problem; and the hyperspectral images were captured by a Hyperspectral Imaging System constructed at Palsis Electronic Optic Ltd. Co. By using the obtained image and the applied approach, high selectivity is achieved between natural and artificial plants, camouflage materials, and the hidden objects can easily be distinguished.
