THE TURKISH ADAPTATION OF SENSE OF COMMUNITY IN ONLINE COURSES SCALE: A VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY
The purpose of this study was to investigate reliability and validity of “the sense of community in online courses” scale and adapt it into Turkish language. The scale, which was originally developed in English, consisted of four factors “Interaction with instructor, kindness and respect, learning-teaching styles appropriateness, learner collaboration” and 16 items. The items of the scale were translated by three linguists in the first phase of the adaptation process from English to Turkish. The scale items were examined by three experts for the language equivalency and content validity of the scale which were managed after translation was completed. The Cronbach Alpha values of the factors were 0.84. Kaiser-Meyer-Oklin (KMO) and Bartlett tests were conducted to examine the construct validity of the scale with participants who had online learning experience. KMO value was obtained as .828; and Barlett result was obtained as χ2=1342.786 p
