THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN QUALITY OF SLEEP AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN DIALYSIS PATIENTS

This study was planned descriptively in order to determine the relationship between sleep quality and health-related quality of life in dialysis patients. This study included 105 patients receiving dialysis at Ege University Hospital Dialysis and Ege Bilim Dialylis center between 03 April-10 June 2003. Patients Recognition Form, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index, and SF-36 Quality of Life Scale were used to collect data. In the evaluation of data “Student’s t” test, “one way variance” analysis, “Kruskall Wallis” analysis and “Spearmen correlation analysis” were used. Fourty-five percent of patients who has been treated with dialysis reported that they had a poor sleep; also that age and maritual status affect on the sleep quality. It was found that quality of life patients had “mild level” and those who had poor sleep received lower quality of life. In consequence; in this study it was determined that poor sleep had common in dialysis patients and sleep quality had a direct and adversily affects on the quality of life
