ARTHUR SCHNİTZLER’İN “FRÄULEİN ELSE” ADLI ESERİNDE AHLAK OLGUSU / Morality in Arthur Schnitzler’s Work “Fräulein Else”

1880-1920 yılları arasına damgasını vuran ve asrın sonu olarak adlandırılan Dekadenz dönemi, ahlâkın neredeyse yok olduğu hayatın her alanını etkilemiştir. Alman Edebiyatında önemli bir yere sahip olan Avusturyalı yazar Arthur Schnitzler de, çağdaş gerçekliği/yaşadığı dönemi, özellikleri ve gelişimleriyle birlikte okura aktarabilmek için, eserlerinde Dekadenz döneminin şekillendirdiği insanları ve toplumu ele alır. Schnitzler, “Fräulein Else” adlı eserde, döneminin toplumsal çirkefliğine ve bozulmasına ayna tutar. 20. yüzyılın başında başlayan ahlak bozulmasına göndermede bulunduğu bu eserde yazar, toplumsal statülerini koruyabilmek adına kendilerine para vermesi beklenen bir adamın önünde çırılçıplak soyunması istenilen genç kızın ruhsal çatışmalarını gözler önüne serer. Kendine duyduğu saygı ve ailesine karşı yerine getirmek zorunda olduğu sorumluluk arasında kalan/gidip gelen genç kızın ruhsal çatışmaları, iç monolog tekniği ile detaylı bir şekilde eserde verilir. Eserde, figürler dış görünüşlerinden ziyade iç dünyaları ile göze çarpar. Onların yaşadığı durumlar ve sahip olduğu düşünceler, dönemin panoramasını çizdiğinden/verdiğinden, ahlak boyutuna eğilmek yerinde olur. Bu yüzden, söz konusu eser ahlak çerçevesinde/boyutuyla ele alınmıştır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Arthur Schnitzler, Dekadenz, Ahlâk, Toplumsal Değişimler. Abstract The Dekadenz period, which struck between 1880 and 1920 and is called the end of the century, influenced every aspect of life where morality almost disappeared. The Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler, who has an important place in German literature, deals with the shaped people and society by the Dekadenz period in his works in order to be able to transfer the reader contemporary reality/the period of his time, with characteristics and developments of the period. Schnitzler mirrors the social cynicism and corruption of his time in his work “Fräulein Else”. The writer submits in this work this moral decadence that began at the beginning of the 20th century and reveals the spiritual conflicts of the young girl who is asked to strip naked in front of a man who is expected to give them money to protect their social status. The spiritual conflicts of the young girl between the self-esteem and the responsibility that she has to fulfill against her family, are given in detail with the inner monologue technique in the work. In the work, the figures stand out with their inner world rather than their outer appearance. It is advisable to lean towards the moral dimension, because their situations and thoughts draw the panorama of the period. Therefore, the work was handled in terms of morality.
