Evaluation of Serum Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody in Patients With Behçet’s Disease

Behçet’s disease is a chronic illnes with unknown etiology and associated with oral aphtae, genital ulceration and uveitis. In this study ANCA positivity which was previously reported in some patients, was investigatedin patients with Behçet’s disease. This study was performed on 32 patients , 21 female and 11 male, who are between 20-59 year old and attended to the Ministry of Health, Ankara Training and Research Hospital Department of Dermatology between June 2002 and January 2003. Diagnosis was made according to the International Study Group Criteria. Serum c-ANCA and p-ANCA were negative in all patients. As a result, although Behçet’s disease mimics to some ANCA positive vasculitis, our results support the theory that ANCA does not have a role in the pathogenesis of Behçet’s disease
