Türk siyasi hayatın ilk muhalefet partisi olan Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkasının kapatılmasıyla çok partili hayata geçiş için yapılan ilk deneme başarısız olmuştur. 1929 yılında dünyada yaşanan ekonomik buhran sebebiyle Mustafa Kemal’in telkinleri ve Halk Fırkasının güdümünde Türkiye’nin ikinci muhalefet partisi olan Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası 12 Ağustos 1930 tarihinde Fethi Okyar tarafından kurulmuştur. Bu çalışmanın amacı Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkasının kuruluş tarihi olan 12 Ağustos 1930 tarihinden kapanış tarihi olan 17 Kasım 1930 tarihine kadar çalışmalarını ve faaliyetlerini arşiv belgeleri ışığında ve ulusal basında yer alan haberler doğrultusunda incelemektir. Birincil kaynaklar üzerinden Türkiye’nin ikinci muhalefet partisinin siyasi serüveninin incelenmesi Türk demokrasi hayatına katkı sunması açısından bu çalışmanın önemini arttırdığı düşünülmektedir. Bu çalışmada yöntem olarak nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan tarihsel yöntem verilerin analizinde ise doküman analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır. Kaynak olarak başta devlet arşivleri olmak üzere dönemin gazeteleri olan Akşam, Cumhuriyet, Hakimiyet-i Milliye, Milliyet, Son Posta, Vakit ve Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkasının yayın organı olarak kabul edilen Serbest Cumhuriyet gazetesi ile telif ve tetkik çalışmalardan istifade edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonunda 1929 Dünya ekonomik buhranının olumsuz etkilerini en aza indirebilmek için Mustafa Kemal’in telkinleriyle kurulan Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkasının 99 gün gibi kısa süren muhalefet sürecinde Türk demokrasi hayatına renk kattığı görülmüştür. Arşiv belgelerinde Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası Genel Sekreterliğinin Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkasının kuruluşu, yapısı ve çalışmalarıyla ilgili genelgeler yayınlaması Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkasının güdümlü ve/veya denetimli bir parti olarak kurulduğunun bir göstergesi olarak kabul edilebilir.

With the closure of the Progressive Republican Party, the first opposition party in Turkish political life, the first attempt to transition to a multi-party system failed. Due to the economic crisis in the world in 1929, the Free Republican Party, the second opposition party of Turkey, was founded by Fethi Okyar on August 12, 1930, under the indoctrination of Mustafa Kemal and under the guidance of the People's Party. The aim of this study is to examine the works and activities of the Free Republic Party from 12 August 1930, the date of its establishment, to 17 November 1930, which is the closing date, in the light of archival documents and in the direction of the news in the national press. Examining the political adventure of Turkey's second opposition party through primary sources is thought to increase the importance of this study in terms of contributing to Turkish democracy life.In this study, the historical method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the analysis of the data, and the document analysis technique was used. As a source, mainly the state archives, the newspapers of the period, Akşam, Cumhuriyet, Hakimiyet-i Milliye, Milliyet, Son Posta, Vakit, and the Free Cumhuriyet newspaper, which is accepted as the publication organ of the Free Cumhuriyet Fırka, were benefited from the copyright and research studies. At the end of the study, it was seen that the Free Republic Party, which was established with the suggestions of Mustafa Kemal in order to minimize the negative effects of the 1929 world economic depression, added color to the Turkish democracy life during the opposition period, which lasted as little as 99 days. The publication of circulars by the General Secretariat of the Republican People's Party regarding the establishment, structure and activities of the Free Republican Party in the archive documents can be accepted as an indication that the Free Republican Party was established as a controlled and/or controlled party.
