GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS ANALYSIS OF ANTALYA CUT FLOWER EXPORTERS

The purpose of this study is to use Porter’s Diamond Model and the framework of resource based view to analyse the global competitiveness of the cut flower sector in Antalya which is growing steadily and gaining a position in the world cut flower trade. Sector profile was drawn and the global competitive power of the sector was analysed through data collected in field survey interviews with managers of 35 cut flower exporters representing the cluster that is responsible for 95% of Turkish cut flower exports. Findings indicate that some factor and demand conditions are evaluated as insufficient by the Antalya cut flower exporters, the firms are small scale and their R&D and innovation strategies are inadequate, there is dependence on external or foreign markets in some related and supporting industries, local cooperations and state supports are weak and sector resources are generally perceived as mediocre.  Keywords: Cut Flower Industry, Global Competitive Power, Diamond Model, Resource Based View.
