in multistory reinforced concrete buildings. Configurations of sher walls at floor plan are generally developed due to architectural design. That configuration and shear areas of shear walls play a significant role in earthquake behavior of them. In this study, the effects of configurating symmetric shear walls with rectangular sections on interior or exterior axes to earthquake behavior of shear wall-frame buildings are investigated. Two eight-story reinforced concrete shear wall-frame buildings having the same floor plan are designed according to Turkish Seismic Code. Shear walls are configurated on interior axes of the first building and on exterior axes of the second building.Base shear forces, sustained by shear walls, interstory drifts and furthermore torsional irregularity factors for 5% additional eccentricity are calculated by linear elastic analysis of both buildings. The comparison of these values and related suggestions are made for two different configurations

EFFECT OF CONFIGURATION OF SHEAR WALLS AT FLOOR PLAN TO EARTHQUAKE BEHAVIOR OF SHEAR WALL-FRAME REINFORCED CONCRETE BUILDINGS

Shear walls are widely used to resist lateral load such as wind and earthquake and to limit interstory drifts in multistory reinforced concrete buildings. The comparison of these values and related suggestions are made for two different configurations.
