Political Dominance of Mu'nis al-Muzaffar (d. 321/933) from the Turkish Commanders in the Abbâsid Period

Mu’nis al-Muzaffar from Khazarian Turks, with the exception his official duties has no political effectiveness or domination in the reigns of his master Mu’tadid and Mu’tadid’s son Muktafi. Munis had many military achievements in the reign of Muktadir which lasted about 25 years and at the same period he reached a political effectiveness to such an extent that he was able to dethrone the caliph of that time and enthrone another one. His actions as if he was an amir al umara in this long period caused a serious political struggle between him and Caliph Muktadir. In the result of this struggle which caused a war between the sides, Caliph Muktadir was killed and Munis enthrone Kahir Billâh, brother of the late caliph. But, after a short while Munis was also killed by Kâhir Billâh who was enthroned by him. In this article, the position and domination of Munis who left his mark on a quarter of a century, in the administration is established by dealing with his political struggles
