ÜNİVERSİTE ÖĞRENCİLERİNDE KÜTÜPHANE KAYGISI: ANADOLU ÜNİVERSİTESİ ÖRNEĞİ

Kütüphane kaygısı ile ilgili yapılan çalışmalar, konunun üniversite düzeyinde öğrenim gören bireylerin bilgiye ve bilgi kaynaklarına verimli bir biçimde ulaşmalarını engelleyen ve onların akademik başarılarını olumsuz yönde etkileyen bir durum olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı; kütüphane kaygısı kuramının kütüphanecilik ve bilgi yönetimi alanında yapılan çalışmalar ışığında gelişim sürecini inceleyerek; Anadolu Üniversitesi Merkez Kütüphanesi'ni kullanan öğrencilerin kütüphane kaygı düzeylerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışmada ayrıca, araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgulara dayalı olarak, üniversite ve kütüphane yönetimine yararlı olacağı düşünülen çeşitli öneriler sunulmaktadır. Araştırmada; Bostick tarafından oluşturulan Kütüphane Kaygısı Ölçeği'nin günümüz koşullarına uyarlanmış bir sürümü kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde frekans analizi, faktör analizi, ortalama, bağımsız örneklemler t-testi ve tek yönlü ANOVA kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre; katılımcılar, kütüphane bilgisiyle ve kütüphaneyi kullanma kısıtlamalarıyla ilgili olarak haf kaygılıdır. Mekanik engeller ve kütüphane personeliyle ilgili olarak orta kaygılı, duygusal ve kütüphaneyi kullanırken hissettikleri rahatlık/güven (kütüphane yapısı ile ilgili engeller) faktörüne göre ise şiddetli kaygı düzeylerindedir. Çalışmada ayrıca; kütüphane kaygısına, en çok, duygusal engellerin yol açtığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

LIBRARY ANXIETY AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: A STUDY AT ANADOLU UNIVERSITY

Studies related to library anxiety show that it is a condition that prevents students in higher education from accessing information and sources of information efciently, and that it affects their academic achievements negatively. The aim of this study is to reveal the library anxiety levels of students who use the Anadolu University Central Library by examining the development process of library anxiety theory according to the studies carried out in the eld of library and information management. Based on the ndings of the research, this study also presents some recommendations that can be useful for higher education and library administrations. In the study, a version of the Library Anxiety Scale, developed by Bostick, was adapted to the current conditions. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, average, independent samples t-test, and one-way ANOVA were used in the analysis of the data. The research ndings presented that participants are slightly anxious about the knowledge of library and restrictions about using the library. They are moderately anxious about mechanical barriers and library staff, and they feel severe anxiety regarding the factors such as affective barriers and comfort with the use of library (about the structure of library). In the study, it was also concluded that the most important reason for the library anxiety was affective barriers.
