Kurkuminin Dişhekimliğinde Kullanım Alanları

Kurkumin, zerdeçalın biyolojik etkilerinden sorumlu en önemli fraksiyondur. Kurkuminin, geniş biyolojik aktivitesiyle tıp ve diş hekimliği alanında çeşitli tedavilerde kullanım alanı bulunmaktadır. Kurkumin diş hekimliği alanında restoratif ve endodontik işlemler, çene kemiği defektleri, periodontal problemler, aftöz ülserler, prekanseröz lezyonlar, mukozitis gibi rahatsızlıklarda yaygın olarak kullanılmıştır. Diş çürüklerinde büyük rol oynayan Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus casei ve Actinomyces viscosus gibi bakterilere karşı kurkuminin antibakteriyel özellik gösterdiği bulunmuştur. Kurkuminin pulpal dokuda irritasyona yol açmaması çok önemlidir. Kurkumin, hücre canlılığını teşvik eder ve Transforming growth factor beta üretimini artırarak primer dental pulpa fibroblastlarının çoğalmasını indükler. Ayrıca yapılan araştırmalarda kurkumin içerikli gargaraların diş hekimliği uygulamalarında dental plak ve diş eti iltihabının önlenmesinde mekanik plak kontrolüne ek olarak etkili bir şekilde kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir. Bu özellikler kurkumini süt ve daimi dişlerdeki dental prosedürlerde ilgi çekici hale getirmiştir. Bu derlemenin amacı, kurkuminin genel diş hekimliği alanında kullanım alanlarının incelenip, literatürde yapılmış çalışmaların derlenmesi ve bu konudaki bilgilerin güncellenmesidir.

Uses of curcumin in dentistry

Curcumin is the most important fraction responsible for turmeric's biological effects. Curcumin, with its wide biological activity, has an area of use in various treatments in the field of medicine and dentistry. Curcumin has been widely used in dentistry for restorative and endodontic procedures, jaw bone defects, periodontal problems, aphthous ulcers, precancerous lesions, mucositis. It has been found that curcumin has antibacterial properties against bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus casei and Actinomyces viscosus, which play a major role in dental caries. It is very important that curcumin does not cause irritation in the pulpal tissue. Curcumin promotes cell viability and induces the proliferation of primary dental pulp fibroblasts by increasing Transforming growth factor beta production. In addition, studies have shown that curcumin-containing mouthwashes can be used effectively in dentistry practices in addition to mechanical plaque control in preventing dental plaque and gingivitis. These properties have made curcumin interesting for dental procedures in milk and permanent teeth. The purpose of this review is to examine the usage areas of curcumin in the field of general dentistry, to compile studies in the literature and to update the information on this subject.
