APEXOGENESIS OF TRAUMATIZED PERMANENT INCISORS WITH OR WITHOUT TOOTH FRAGMENT

Vital pulp therapy involving partial or cervical pulpotomy can offer a successful outcome for the treatment of traumatic complicated crown fractures. The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate the effect of calcium hydroxide in apexogenesis and maturogenesis of traumatized immature permanent incisors with pulp exposure.According to clinical and radiological examinations, complicated crown fractures and open apices of two permanent maxiller incisors in two patients were identified (9 and 10 years old, respectively). Partial or cervical pulpotomy procedures were performed according to post traumatic time and teeth were treated with calcium hydroxide. In this study, periodic clinical and radiological follow-ups were performed in 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 months. At recall examinations,  teeth were asymptomatic, clinical and radiological investigations revealed excellent healing patterns with continued apexogenesis and maturation.Vital pulp therapy is a treatment for immature traumatized permanent teeth in order to preserve vitality and physiological root development by using calcium hydroxide medication. Adhesive reattachment of tooth fragment is the most conservative treatment when the tooth fragment is available and also more advantageous than conventional composite restorations.
