Epidemiologic Assessment of 4000 Mental Ill patients (Shiraz /Iran) 2014

Abstract. Summary: Psychiatric disorders are among the most common morbid and stress making problems all around the world.(1) Periodic assessment of rate and effect of diseases ; epidemiologically or economically ; would be helpful for health organizations to plan better for the next generation of drugs or other types of treatment. This is an epidemiologic essay about 4000 out-patients referred to a central mental illness clinic in Shiraz –Iran during a 3 years period (2011-2014) that will show the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in Iranian people and the changes comparing to the last decade.Results: The mean age was 23.6 y/o (from 1 to 89 y/o) included 52.5 % female, 34.5 % male and 13 % children. There were a 62.5 % urban and 26.7 % rural people and 72 % of referrals were 12 classes educated or less. 58% of clients were married while 31.8% were house-wives and 10.3 % unemployed. The most prevalent group of diseases was Mood and Affective Disorder included 23.9% of all patients while Anxiety Disorders involved less than 10 % (by itself) and Schizophrenia 2.8 % of all referrals.Conclusion: The average of prevalence and mean age of psychiatric patients is seemingly changed during last decade and may need some diversity or difference in health management strategies and planning for future.
