Öz Industries differ from one another in many structural characteristics as well as in the economic achievement of the firm in them Economist have long been interested in reasons for such differences as well as in connection between parcitcular structural characteristics and features of economic performance Most of the analysis dealing with this problem has been conducted vithin the framework of a structure conduct performance model In this study the main characteristics of the model have been summarized and economies of scale which is considered as one of the main determinants of the market structure has been explained In this arficle only the private firms in three digit Turkish Manufacturing industry have been taken into consideration and classified according to the number of worker employed for the years 1970 1975 1980 and 1984 In order to determine in which industries the economies of scale is important the relation between the value added per worker and size of the firms for each sector has been tested Beyond this the survivor technique has been applied ÖZET Günümüz ekonomileri üretim ve kullanım yönünden sürekli ilişki içinde bulunan ve farklı yapısal özellikler gösteren sektörlerden oluşmaktadır Söz konusu sektörlerde yer alan firmaların yapı ve davranışları bir yandan sektörün yapısını etkilemekte diğer yandan ise bundan etkilenmektedir Bu etkileşim genellikle yapı davranış performans modeli içinde incelenmektedir Bu çalışmada söz konusu model kısaca tanıtılarak piyasa yapısının en önemli belirleyicileri arasında bulunan ölçek ekonomileri kavramı ve ölçme yöntemleri açıklanmıştır Türkiye’de ölçek ekonomilerinin hangi sektörlerde önemli olduğunu belirlemek için 1970 1975 198O ve 1984 yıllarında sektörel bazda sadece özel kesim için çalışan sayısına göre işyeri büyüklükleri alınarak işgücü verimliliğinde fark olup olmadığı test edilmiştir Daha sonra ölçek ekonomilerinin ölçülmesinde kullanılan yaşamı sürdürme testi uygulanmıştır
