Left and right spectra

The left spectrnm a\a) and tbe right spectrum c’^(a) of an element in a Banach algebra A are considered and some properties are proved. Operatör algebras in which, for every element T, a’(T) = o“^(T) are investigated, and a characterization of ct*(T) and o'^(T) is given.
