AN EXAMPLE OF THE “EVIL EMPEROR” CONCEPT IN THE ROMAN EMPIRE: ELAGABALUS

Elagabalus is one of the most extraordinary character of Roman history. The extraordinary life of Elagabalus has put him among the worst governors in the history of the Roman Empire. Especially in ancient sources, the character of Elagalabus and the evil of his life are often emphasized. The biasedattitude in ancient sources has caused questions about the reality of this situation and fort his reason, character analysis of the emperor was attempted with a different method. Consequently the sculptural works of Elagabalus were studied with physiognomic methods and interest ingresults were obtained
