AMASTRİS’Lİ HOMEROS
Amastris antik kenti, Paphlagonia Bölgesi’nin en önemli ticaret limanlarından biri olarak bilinmektedir. Kentin Roma Dönemi sikkeleri üzerinde görülen Homeros portresi ve “Amastrisli Homeros” epiteti dikkat çekmektedir. Amastrislilerin bu yolla Homeros’un doğduğu kent olduğunu iddia ettikleri anlaşılmaktadır. Zira Smyrna başta olmak üzere, Kolophon, Khios, Ios, Alexandria’nın da aralarında bulunduğu 20 kadar kent ozanın doğum yeri olduklarını iddia etmektedirler. Bu kentlerden bazılarında Homeros adına kült yapıları ve heykellerinin de olduğu bilinmektedir. Amastris’in Smyrna sikkelerini örnek alarak hem ozanın portresini hem de kenarında doğduğu kabul edilen ırmağı, kendi sikkeleri üzerinde betimlemesi, olasılıkla Paphlagonia kentleri arasında Ionia ile olan bağlarını kanıtlayarak saygınlığını arttırma çabası olarak görülmelidir.
HOMER OF AMASTRIS
Amastris is known as one of the most important the commercial port of the Paphlagonia Region. It’s remarkable the presence of the portrait of Homer and the epithet of “Homer of Amastris” on the city’s coins of Roman Period. In this way, it’s understood which Amastrians claimed that the city was place of birth of Homer. Forasmuch, especially Smyrna, Colophon, Chios, Ios, Alexandria also including up to 20 cities, had been suggested to be birthplace of the poet. It’s known to have the cult buildings and statues dedicated to Homer in the some of these cities. Probably Amastrians should be seen as an effort to increase their reputations by proving the relationship between Ionia, indeed the other Paphlagonia cities. Because it has been depicted both the portrait of Poet and Meles that is accepted the birthplace of the coastal river on Amastrian coins, just like on Smyrnian coins.
