Giant Submandibular Gland Duct Sialolith: A Case Report
Giant Submandibular Gland Duct Sialolith: A Case Report
Sialoliths are known as calcified structures developed within the ductal system of salivary glands. It is assumed that if we need to pay attention to the causes of the event, it is usually the result of recurrent chronic and acute sialodenitis. It is believed that these sialolites are caused by the accumulation of different kinds of salts around a debris in the channel lumen. When we say huge sialolite, we mean that sialolites which are bigger than 15 mm in length and more than 1 g in weight. In this case report of a sialolith of 2 *1* 1 cm size localized in the submandibular duct was excised with an intraoral approach and the function of the duct was reestablished again with normal salivary flow.
