Yeni tip bir dökme demir son senelerde dünyanın muhtelif yerlerinde çeşitli endüstri dallarında geniş bir kullanılma sahası bulmuştur. Bu yeni tip dökme demirinde grafit yaprak şeklinden çok küresel bir şekildedir. Grafitin bu şekli döküm demirine, bazı tatbikat sahalarında çeliğinkine yakın iyi kaliteler sağlar, imalâtındaki kolaylık ve ekonomik avantajları yüzünden bazı sahalarda çelik yerini yakında tutabilecektir. Türkiye'de küresel grafitli dökme demir ne yazık ki, halen tatminkâr bir şekilde imâl edilmemektedir. Bu makalede bu malzemenin metalürjisi hakkında genel bilgiler verilmektedir.

In recent years a new type of cast iron has been widely in use in various industrial plants in different parts of the world. In this new type of cast iron the graphite is in the form of spheroids rather than flakes. This shape of the graphites gives better qualities to cast irons which approach those of steel in some applications. Beceause of the ease in its production and economical advantages, it may soon replace steel in certain fields. Unfortunately spheroidal cast iron hast not yet been successfully produced in Turkey. In this article general information about the metallurgy of this material is presented.
