Most accident investigation follow a research technique called the scientific met­hod. Facts are gathered and analyzed. Hypothesis are then developed to explain these facts. Each hypothesis is tested against the facts and finally, the most probable expla­nation of the accident is selected. Any one of a number of problem - solving techniques based on this investigative approach may be used. An investigation is not complete, however, until a final report is submitted. Responsible officials can then use the resul­ting information on recommendations to prevent future accidents
