Effects of low-tunnel,mulch and pruning applications on the yield and earliness of tomato in unheated glasshouse
This research was conducted in unheated glasshouse which belong to Department of Horticulture, Tekirdağ Agricultural Faculty of Trakya University in 1995 in order to determine the effect of low-tunnel, mulch and pruning applications on tomato yield and earliness. The experiment involved "Fuji $F_1$" tomato variety in split-split plot design in which the application of low-tunnel was the main, mulches [transparent polyethylene, black polyethylene, wheat straw, bare(control)] the sub- and the pruning (4th truss or 8th truss) the sub-sub plots. Plant height, plant stem diameter, number of days to first harvest, early yield (g/plant), total yield (g/plant) and" fruit weight (g/fruit) were determined during the growing period. It was observed that low-tunnel and mulching had pozitive effect in improving the plant development. The highest early yield was obtained from the plants pruned from the 4th truss and mulched with any mulch under low-tunnel. Total yield was highest in plants pruned from 8th truss and mulched with wheat straw mulch.
