DETERMINATION OF SPREADING, INFESTATION RATIO, NATURAL ENEMIES AND SOME BIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF Acalitus essigi Hassan, (Acari: Eriophyidae) DAMAGING ON BLACKBERRIES GROWN IN BURSA AND YALOVA PROVINCES

This study was conducted in order to determine spreading, infestation rate, some biological characteristics and natural enemies of Acalitus essigi (Hassan) (Acari: Eriophyidae) causing considerably product losses by inhibiting ripening of berries, the one of most important blackberry pests, in Yalova and Bursa provinces in 2011–2012. As a result of study carried out according to simple random sampling method all of the cultivation areas were found to be infested with this pest and the rates of infestation were varied from 1% to 45. Densities of pest in the blackberry fruits under the laboratory conditions were determined as 0–5 scale degree (0–50>individual). Densities of this pest in buds in the natural conditions were determined as mean (X̄±SE), 1.3±0.2 and 2.1±0.24 individual/adhesive tapes. Whilst any biological stage of pest was not found in plant bud and flowers, but nymph and adult stages were found in fruits. As natural enemies, predatory mite, Neoseiulus californicus (Mc Gregor) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) and a fly species belonging to Cecidomyiidae family was determined.
