Development of a Mobile Health Application Supporting the Elderly in Their Daily Lives

As a result of increased human lifespan, the number of elderly people in the world is increasing day by day. On the other hand, information technologies have fundamentally affected our daily lives and enabled the healthcare industry to provide better healthcare to people. In this paper, the MMALI mobile application, which is a mobile health application that supports the elderly in their daily lives and transmit health data to physicians, is described. As a solution to the forgetfulness problem that can be seen in the elderly, reminders can be defined for taking medication, making medical measurements, and other tasks related to daily activities. The elderly can report their health problems and medical measurements to the central server. Thus, health data of a large user group can be collected regularly, and new information can be obtained by data mining and data analysis on this data. Relatives of the elderly can also track the elderly’s location in case of disappearance because of the wandering behavior encountered in some elderlies. In addition, the questionnaires on the central server can be applied to the elderly. In this way, it is planned to receive feedback from many users without the expense of paper, printing, postage and without the need for the individual to go to health centers. By using the mobile application proposed in this paper, it is considered that elderly will feel more free and self-confident.
