BİR TERİMİN ÖZGÜN BAĞLAMINDAN KOPARILMASI: "İŞ İSTİHBARATI"NIN HİKÂYESİ

Bir kelime veya terimin taraflar için aynı anlamı taşımadığı veya hangi anlamda kullanıldığının taraflarca bilinmediği durumlarda kavram kargaşası ortaya çıkar. Kavram kargaşasının olduğu yerde ise dil iletişim işlevinde yetersiz kalır. İş istihbaratı terimi de bu bağlamda sorunlu bir terim olarak varlığını sürdürmektedir. Terim, hem doğduğu dilde yaşadığı anlam kayması itibariyle hem de Türkçe'deki yaygın bir şekilde kullanılagelmekte olan karşılığı itibariyle sorunludur. Bu makalenin amacı bir yandan konuyla ilgili farkındalık sağlamak öte yandan da bu örneği öne çıkartarak başka benzer durumlarla karşılaşmamak için daha titiz davranılmasına vesile olmaktır. Çalışmada, tarihî akışı içinde literatür taraması yanında terimin iki ayrı anlamında etkili olmuş yazarlardan doğrudan değerlendirme alınması yöntemi uygulanmıştır. İlgili etiketle sınıflandırılmış ürün veya hizmetlerin ilan edilmiş yeteneklerinin karşılaştırılması konusunda ise sonuçlar aktarılmıştır.

REMOVING A TERM FROM ITS ORIGINAL CONTEXT: THE STORY OF "BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE"

When a word or term has not the same meaning for each communicating parties or which meaning the term is used for is not known by the related parties the conceptual confusion and problem of transferring the thoughts arise. The "language" will be insufficient when executing its communication function if there is a conceptual confusion. The term of "business intelligence" has been having the problem in this context. The term has problems both in its original language because of its "shifted meaning" and in Turkish because of its prevalent wrong equivalent. This article aims to shine a light on existing conceptual confusion, on the one hand; to call for the more rigorous treatment when using a term, on the other hand. In this study, conducting a literature survey in a chronological manner and obtaining direct treatments from the authors who have played an effective role in the two different stages of the term are chosen as a method. The results of comparisons of declared capabilities of the products and solutions classified under "business intelligence" label are also included.
