Vitamin B12 eksikliğine bağlı medulla spinalisin subakut kombine dejenerasyonu

Medulla spinalisin subakut kombine dejenerasyonu genellikle parestezi, derin duyu bozukluğu ve ataksi ile karakterize kronik progressif bir bozukluktur, Vitamin B12 eksikliğinde anemi genellikle nörolojik semptom ve bulguların gelişmesinden önce ortaya çıkar. Nadir olarak bu sıra tersine döner ve nörolojik semptom ve bulgular anemi olmadan da gelişebilir. Bu yazıda hemoglobini, ortalama eritrosit hacmi ve periferik yayması normal, fakat düşük serum vitamin B12 düzeyleri olan bk vaka sunulmuş ve subakut kombine dejenerasyonun klinik prezentasyonu, tedavisi ve prognozu literatür bilgileri eşliğinde gözden geçirilmiştir.

Subacute combined degeneration of spinal cord caused by vitamin B12 deficiency

Subacute combined degeneration of spinal cord is a chronic progressive disorder usually characterized by paresthesias, impairment of deep sensation and ataxia. In Vitamin B12 deficiency, anemia usually precedes the development of neurologic signs and symptoms. Rarely this sequence is reversed. Neurologic signs and symptoms may appear in the absence of anemia. In this paper, one case with a normal hemoglobin, a normal mean corpuscular volume, a normal peripheral blood smear but abnormally low serum vitamin B12 level is presented, and clinical presentation, treatment and prognosis of subacute combined degeneration is reviewed according to recent literature.
