Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nün son yüzyılında başlatılan Türk modernleşme hareketi Türkiye tarihinin en önemli meselelerinden biri olmuştur. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kuruluşu ile birlikte modernleşme olgusu bilimsel ve rasyonel bir düzlem üzerine oturtulmuştur. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin modernleşme modelinde cemaate dayalı toplumun yerini ulus devlet anlayışı almıştır. Yeni bir ulus devlet oluşturma yolunda yapılan tüm inkılaplar toplumu dönüştürmeye yönelik hareketlerdir. İnkılâpların temel dinamikleri milliyetçilik, laiklik ve halkçılık prensipleridir. İnkılâpların hayata geçirilmesinde ise Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi, Basın, Halkevleri ve Radyo en etkili kurumlar olmuştur. Yeni Türk devletini ve ulusunu modernleştirmeyi amaçlayan Cumhuriyet'in kadrosu Batılılaşma projesi ile bu amaca ulaşmaya çalışmış, bu anlayış tüm kurumlarda da sergilenmiştir. Sosyal, kültürel, eğitim ve hukuk alanında yapılan reformlarla asıl amaç modern bir toplum' yaratmaktır. Diğer yandan modern giysiler, modern hukuk sistemi, eğitim ve diğer tüm yeniliklerle Türk toplumunun medeni milletler seviyesine ulaşması amaçlanmıştır. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti döneminin oldukça önünde giden bir anlayışa sahip olan inkılabın prensipleri ve yöntemi ile bağımsızlık yolunda savaş veren diğer uluslara da model olmuştur.

Turkish modernization movement, begun with the last century of Ottoman Empire, is one of the most important subjects of the history of Turkey. By means of the establishment of Turkish Rebublic, an understanding of modernization based on the science and rational principles is appropriated. In this model, the religious community is replaced by the understanding of nation-state. It is the first condition in the way of creating a new nation. So the target of all the reforms were the transformation of the society. The main dynamics of the reforms were the principles of nationalism, laicism and populism. It can be said that the Turkish 'Republican People's Party, the press, People's Houses, and the radio which were the most effectual institutions in Turkey, became very useful in the realization of the Turkish reforms. Republican cadre appropriated a westernization project aimed to raise the new Turkish state and the nation together just up to the level of the contemporary civilizations. Therefore, a new understanding was adopted in all the institutions. The reforms performed in social, cultural, educational and judical systems were the main steps in creating a modern society. In other words, the modern customes, modern laws, education and all the other reforms enabled Turkish society to reached the level of contemporary civilizations. Every measure was taken to project the principles of the revolution and Turkey became a model for the nations fought in the way of their independence.
