Büyük Nutuk, Atatürk tarafından 1927 yılında Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi’nin II. Büyük Kongresi’nde 15 Ekim 1927 - 20 Ekim 1927 tarihleri arasında 6 gün süre ile okunmuş, bilâhare kitap halinde yayımlanmıştır. Atatürk, Nutkun yazılışı esnasında Millî Mücadele, İstiklâl Savaşı vc Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kuruluşuna kaynak teşkil eden birçok belgeyi gözden geçirmiş, bu belgelerin büyük bir bölümünden eserine geniş alıntılar yapmış, bu arada kişisel yazışmalardan, Erzurum ve Sivas Kongreleri, Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi tutanaklarından ve gazete koleksiyonların¬dan büyük ölçüde yararlanmıştır.
