Late Chalcolithic Pottery Assemblage from Başur Höyük

Başur Höyük, (Siirt) is an important settlement located in Northern Mesopotamia that is excavated within a dam salvage excavations project like most other Southern Turkey settlements. Başur has two main sequences of the Late Chalcolithic Period. The earliest phase is represented by the local Late Chalcolithic Period communities who produced a chaff-tempered, chaff-faced pottery assemblage. The following period is represented by Southern Mesopotamian communities called the Uruk Culture who produced a mineral-temper pottery assemblage. The Uruk Culture expanded from the South to Northern Mesopotamian regions and built a colonial network to trade for many years. We have some archaeological problematics about the relationship between the local and southern groups. What were the inter-regional interactions in these periods between the two groups? This article about Late Chalcolithic Pottery from Başur Höyük presents most ranges of pottery assemblages from these two distinct communities.
