Evaluation of drainage rate, urea-nitrogen and creatinine saturation of withdrawn dialysate in dogs and cats treated peritoneal dialysis
In this study, the percentage of the dialysate recoverable from the abdominal cavity, the concentration of urea nitrogen and creatinine of the dialysate and blood as well as the urea nitrogen and creatinine saturation of the dialysate relative to the blood were examined in dogs and cats with bilateral ureteral obstruction undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The dialysis was performed with a dialysate containing 1.5% dextrose at a dose of 40ml/kg, for 8 sessions lasting 60 minutes with intervals of 6 hours between sessions. The percentage of the recoverable dialysate was 77.3%-81% in dogs and 73.6%-87.9% in cats. The percentage of the recoverable dialysate, urea-nitrogen and creatinine values were increased with the sessions. This increase was statistically significant in cats (p
