Kolona hedeflenen ilaç taşıyıcı sistemler, kolona özgü çeşitli lokal hastalıkların tedavisini ve peptitproteinlerin kolonda sistemik absorpsiyonlarını sağlarlar. Son yıllarda etkin maddelerin kolona hedeflendirilmeleri için önilaç (prodrug)’ların oluşturulması, pH’ya duyarlı polimerlerle kaplama yapılması, kolona özgü biyoparçalanan polimerlerin, zamana bağımlı ve basınç kontrollü etkin madde taşıyıcı sistemlerin kullanılması gibi çeşitli farmasötik yaklaşımlar geliştirilmiştir. Bu derlemede; kolonun fizyolojisi ve kolona hedeflenen etkin madde taşıyıcı sistemler için kullanılan teknolojiler değerlendirilmiştir

Colon targeted drug delivery systems have the potential to deliver drugs for the treatment of a variety of colonic diseases and to deliver proteins and peptides to the colon for their systemic absorption. In recent years, various pharmaceutical approaches have been developed for targeting the drugs to the colon include, formation of prodrugs, coating of pH-sensitive polymers, use of colon specific biodegradable polymers, time depended and pressure controlled drug delivery systems.
