Bir Reformasyon Öncüsü: Padovalı Marsilius

Defensor pacis [Barış Savunucusu, 1324], siyasi düşünce tarihinde ortaçağdan modernliğe geçişi işaretleyen çarpıcı yapıtlardan biridir. Bu yapıt, eski geleneği kırarak ortaçağ Hıristiyan devletinin kuramsal temellerinin altını oymuştur. Defensor pacis’in papalığa karşı verdiği kavga, onun yalnız birtakım iddialarına değil, gerçekten doğrudan varoluşuna yönelikti. Bu çalışmanın konusu olan II. Konuşma, papalığın teokratik söyleminin dayanağı olan eksiksiz güç öğretisini dünyevi olarak [I. Konuşma] değil, bu kez kutsallık içinde kalarak çürütmeye çalışmıştı. Marsilius’un savunusunun doruğu, kilise yasasının geçerliliğini ve yasa olarak tam varoluş olasılığını reddetmekti. Kilise yasasının bu kesin yıkımı, papalık eksiksiz güç iddiasını bütünüyle tüketmişti. Marsilius’un papalık karşıtı iddiaları kuşkusuz onu reformasyonun öncülerinden biri yapmıştır

A FORERUNNER OF THE REFORMATION: MARSILIUS OF PADUA

Defensor pacis [Defender of the Peace, 1324], is one of the main works which indicate the transition from Middle Ages to modernity in history of political thoughts. This work has undercut the theoretical roots of res publica Christiana of Middle Ages by shivering the old tradition.Defensor pacis’ struggle against the Papacy had targeted not only some of its claims but also its, explicitly, very existence. The Discourse II, which is the main topic of this work, had tried to confute the doctrine of “plenty of power” which was the basis of the Papal theocratic expression, this time not secularly [as in The Discourse I] but by staying in the borders of sacredness.canonic law has utterly fi nished off the claim of plenty of Papal power.Marsilius’ anti-papist claims has defi nitely made him one of the forerunners of the Reformation
