RESEARCHES IN SOUTH-EAST ANATOLIA THE CHELLEAN AND ACHEULEAN INDUSTRY OF DÜLÜK AND KARTAL

Öz İn. the summer season of 1954, in thc course of palaeoanthropo- logical and prchistoric rcsearchcs in South - East Anatoha undcrtakcn undcr tlıe auspiccs of tlıc Faculty of Ecttcrs, Ankara Univcrsity, flint handaxes belonging to Middle Pleistoccnc man were discovered on thc tcrraces and ncw scttlement arcas containing middle and upper palaeolithic culturcs wcrc cstablished in the natural cavcs. Matcrial cul- tural evidcnce in thc stratigraphy of fossil man in South-East Anatolia was discovcrcd for the first time in Hatay near to Samandağ bchind thc village of Mağracık in natural cavcs on the coast overlooking the sea and fossil animal remains togethcr with artifacts wcrc sent to the Palacoanthropology' Institute in Ankara.
